MACAO, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Visitors to Macao in the third quarter of 2017 spent 15.93 billion patacas (about 1.98 billion U.S. dollars), up by 8.8 percent year-on-year, the special administrative region's statistic department said Tuesday.
The latest report issued by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total spending of overnight visitors (12.99 billion patacas or 1.62 billion dollars) and same-day visitors (2.94 billion patacas or 366 million dollars) rose by 9.0 percent and 8.2 percent respectively year-on-year.
The report also showed that the spending of visitors per capita was 1,926 patacas (about 240 dollars), up by 6.7 percent year-on-year and 7.8 percent quarter-to-quarter. Visitor spending per capita from Chinese mainland increased by 4.6 percent year-on-year to 2,197 patacas (about 273 dollars), which is the highest followed by Singapore, Japan and Malaysia.
With regard to type of visitor spending, visitors spent mainly on shopping (46.4 percent), accommodation (26.7 percent) and food and beverage (19.3 percent).
Analyzed by main purpose of visit, per capita spending of visitors coming to Macao for meeting and exhibition events (3,520 patacas or 43 dollars) and shopping (2,607 patacas or 324 dollars) grew by 13.9 percent and 4.1 percent respectively year-on-year.
