SYDNEY, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Australian State of New South Wales (NSW) on Tuesday announced a new technology partnership between China's Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
The announcement came during NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian's three-day trade mission to southern China's Guangdong province, where she was joined by delegation of more than 50 NSW business organizations to promote and export NSW innovation.
"Expanding our expertise in education is a great success story for NSW," Berejiklian said in a statement obtained by Xinhua.
"And this venture by UTS will further strengthen our global reputation as a leader in this field."
The agreement is set to focus on advanced manufacturing, robotics and furthering development in computing innovation.
Berejiklian said the partnership was a "product of years of work" between UTS and local authorities of southern China's major city Shenzhen to develop more collaborative research.
Also high on the agenda for the trip will be the topic of smart cities.
The state of NSW is set to embark on the development of a new airport on the outskirts of Sydney, which has been dubbed the "Aerotropolis."
Highly impressed by the smart city infrastructure of Shenzhen, Berejiklian said "NSW and Guangdong share a commitment to building smarter cities, and this kind of technology can help us in the future."
"There is much we can learn from successful smart cities," she said.
