DUBAI, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) condemned late Thursday a van attack in the Spanish city of Barcelona, official news agency WAM reported.
The UAE "condemns the terrorist act and reiterates its firm position that rejects all forms of violence and terrorism, irrespective of religion and race," WAM quoted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation as saying in a statement.
In the statement, the Gulf Arab state expressed its "solidarity with the Spanish government in its fight against violence and extremism," and called on the international community to stand united against them.
The ministry also wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the attack, the statement said.
Earlier in the day, a van ploughed into pedestrians in the Las Ramblas tourist district of Barcelona, leaving at least 13 dead and dozens injured.
