CAIRO, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Secretary General of the Arab League (AL) Ahmed Aboul-Gheit Thursday called for Arab countries to provide support to the ailing Palestinian economy.
Speaking at the 100th session of the Economic and Social Council at the ministerial level at the AL headquarters in Cairo, Aboul-Gheit stressed the need to boost the Palestinian economy which is suffering from Israeli restrictions.
He also called for activating the Arab customs union and the Greater Arab Free Trade Area as well as preparing for the 29th session of the Arab summit to be held in Saudi's capital Riyadh.
On Sunday, a report issued by the Palestine Monetary Authority forecast a 3.4-percent economic growth in Palestine in 2017, down from 4.1 percent in 2016.
The report attributed the possible drop to Israeli restrictions on the movement of people and goods into and out of Palestine.
