BEIRUT, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon should become a center for dialogue between cultures and religions in the Arab world, Lebanese President Michel Aoun said Wednesday.
Speaking to a delegation from the Lebanese Diaspora, Aoun said that "efforts were being exerted to make Lebanon take this position worldwide," the presidential media office said in a statement.
Aoun, requested the delegation support these efforts. "Lebanon deserves to run this dialogue given that it is made up of sects, cultures, and diversity," he said.
The delegation represents Lebanese expats in the United States, Gabon, Ghana, France, Australia and Austria.
"The wars that the Arab World witnessed in recent times have left a deep wound among the constituents of these societies," the president said.
It has become a pressing issue to restore the basics of common life between people, which is something that applies to a number of countries, Aoun added.
