DUBAI, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Gulf state United Arab Emirates (UAE) will, based on a directive issued by President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, unify the learning system of all public and private schools in all seven sheikhdoms of the UAE, Dubai daily Gulf News reported on Sunday.
The new educational system will be called the Emirati School Model, announced on Sunday by the UAE Ministry of Education in Abu Dhabi. This new system aims to unify the sector across the UAE and "raise standards of teaching and learning," said the report.
The move follows the directives of President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Gulf News quoted the vice president as saying "The UAE has made many significant achievements in education and the next stage requires us to build on them under a unified framework in preparation for the comprehensive development."
The Gulf state, a major oil supplier and the most diversified economy among all Arab Gulf countries, has around 10 million inhabitants of which 80 percent are foreigners.
