ABU DHABI, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday slammed the sixth nuclear test done by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) as a threat to global security and stability.
A statement released by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the test is a clear violation of the will and decisions of the international community, the Emirates News Agency reported.
The DPRK's recurrent nuclear tests pose not only a challenge to UN Security Council resolutions and the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons agreements, but also pose "a real threat" to global security and stability, the statement said.
It reiterated the need to abide by international resolutions and treaties on the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, while calling on the UN Security Council to work to address those violations that undermine peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia.
The ministry also called on North Korea to abide by Security Council resolutions, while urging all concerned parties to pursue dialogue and diplomacy in an effort to reduce tensions and maintain international peace and security.
The DPRK on Sunday detonated a hydrogen bomb that can be carried by an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). It is the sixth nuclear test it has undertaken, running counter to relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the goal to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.
The latest nuclear test has aroused strong condemnation by countries and international organizations alike, which called for addressing the new provocation and resuming dialogue to solve problems.
