RAMALLAH, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian consensus government welcomed Tuesday the Arab League's agreement to a request from the Palestinian Authority to form a committee aimed at foiling Israel's bid to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2019/2020.

The Palestinian cabinet called, in a statement issued after the weekly meeting in the West Bank city of Ramallah, the world to reject Israel's candidacy for any international post, considering it as "an encouragement to its colonization, crimes and non-compliance with the law and norms governing international institutions."

The cabinet also expressed its condemnation of Israel's attempts to become a non-permanent member in UNSC "in light of its violation of the UN Charter and its refusal to implement the resolutions in systematic and widespread violations of the norms of international law and Palestinian human rights."

In a related context, the Palestinian cabinet esteemed "Palestinian, Arab and African efforts" that led to the cancellation of the Israeli-African summit scheduled to take place in Togo next month.

The cabinet warned of "serious implications of Israel's organizing for a conference of this magnitude in Africa, which would be an insult to the continent nations' struggle, while Israel practices colonial occupation on the Palestinian land and a racist regime against Palestinian people."

Media sources reported that the postponement decision stemmed from Arab pressure on African countries that were due to attend the summit, showing resentment at their rapprochement with Israel.
