BEIJING, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- The China Zhi Gong Party, one of China's eight non-Communist political parties, will elect a new leadership during its 15th National Congress, which opened in Beijing Saturday.
Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and member of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat, met with the delegates to the congress and extended congratulations on behalf of the CPC Central Committee.
While affirming contributions made by China Zhi Gong Party members in fields including sci-tech innovation, poverty relief, attracting overseas talent and protecting the interests of overseas Chinese, Wang said the CPC will uphold and improve the system of the CPC-led multiparty cooperation and political consultation in accordance with the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress.
In handling its relationships with other political parties, "the CPC will adhere to the principle of long-term coexistence, mutual oversight, treating each other with sincerity, and sharing both good and bad times," according to Wang.
He called on members of the China Zhi Gong Party to study, spread and carry out the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress and contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and national reunification.
Wan Gang, chairman of the congress's presidium, called on party members to study and implement the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress and unswervingly adhere to the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, while delivering a work report at the opening ceremony on behalf of the 14th Central Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party.
The China Zhi Gong Party should better perform its duties and concentrate efforts in improving the overall capabilities of serving the public so as to contribute to securing a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and striving for the great success of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, said Wan.
During the national congress of the China Zhi Gong Party, delegates will hear and deliberate the report of the party's 14th Central Committee, review and approve an amendment to the China Zhi Gong Party Constitution, and elect the new leadership.
Founded in 1925, the China Zhi Gong Party is mainly comprised of overseas Chinese who have returned to the mainland, relatives of nationals living abroad as well as those with close connections with overseas Chinese.
The CPC is the ruling Party in China. The eight non-Communist parties are political organizations having connections with people of particular social circles.
