MEHTARLAM, Afghanistan, Dec.18 (Xinhua) -- Three children were killed and six others wounded after a roadside mine exploded in eastern Afghan province of Laghman, authorities said Monday.
"The incident took place early Monday morning in Qala Cha locality of provincial capital Mehtarlam city. The provincial governor has instructed the provincial health department to provide best medical treatment for the injured children," the provincial government said in a statement.
The landmine was allegedly planted by Taliban militants, the statement added.
Taliban and Islamic State (IS) fighters have been using the home-made Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and landmines to target security forces, but the lethal weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.
