BUENOS AIRES, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- Argentina is as far from the North Pole as most places get, but the South American country has found a way to bring the magic of Christmas, complete with Santa's Workshop, to its capital Buenos Aires.

A Christmas theme park, open through Christmas Eve, recreated Santa's headquarters in the city's northern Palermo district.

Victoria Farragut, coordinator of activities at Christmas Park, said the venue opened earlier this month to the delight of city residents.

"A lot of people visit us," Farragut said of the park, which was set up by local authorities and charges no admission.

"The most important attraction is visiting Santa Claus, so kids can personally hand him their wish list for the holidays," added Farragut.

According to organizers, 120,000 people have visited the park since it opened on Dec. 8 to go on the rides, including a carousel, take photos with oversized Christmas decorations, and see how Santa's elves make toys.

Dancers, acrobats and parades provided entertainment for visiting families, and afternoon storytelling time captivated the kids.

The park also encourages giving, by providing a giant bin where children can drop off toys they have outgrown so others can enjoy them.

The park is part of an annual initiative called "Buenos Aires Solidarity," jointly promoted by the government and non-governmental organizations.
