RABAT, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Morocco's growing aeronautics industry aims to achieve some 2.9 billion U.S. dollars of turnover by 2020, the Moroccan minister of Industry, Investment, Trade and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy said in an interview with the official MAP news agency published on Thursday.
The sector has already created some 15,000 jobs and seeks to create 23,000 new jobs by 2020, Elalamy said.
The minister underlined that aeronautics grew by 18 percent in 2016 and it is expected to speed up to 20 percent by 2020 given the momentum the sector has been experiencing.
The Moroccan aeronautical industry has made significant strides over the past decade, with its industrial base growing from a few companies to over 130.
In 2016, Morocco signed a one billion U.S. dollars deal with Boeing that will create an ecosystem in conjunction with local suppliers, that will create 8,700 new jobs.
Apart from Boeing, the country is home to many international brands such as Bombardier, Airbus, Safran, Thales, and Hexel Composite.
