MANILA, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine government said it has received reports that at least two people died as tropical depression hit central Philippines on Tuesday.
Romina Marasigan of the National Disaster Rick Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the agency is now verifying the death of a woman in her 60s who reportedly died in a landslide in Malabuyoc town, Cebu province and a 39-year-old man who reportedly jumped off a roof and hit his head on the ground.
"We have received reports from the Cebu provincial disaster agency about the two reported dead in Cebu but we are requesting DILG for verification, validation and confirmation," said Marasigan.
The NDRRMC said at least 301 families or 1,287 persons from Central Visayas region have been evacuated.
The tropical depression also stranded passengers in the provinces, the agency said.
It said the tropical depression triggered floods and landslides in the central Philippines.
The tropical depression hit barely a week after a strong typhoon hit the same region, leaving behind more than 200 dead.
