BANGKOK, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Thai police said the driver of the coach that veered off a road in southern Thailand was tested positive for drug abuse, local media reported on Tuesday.
Police found the driver, 36, together with his assistant, 22, act suspiciously and subjected them to urine test. Their urine appeared purple, where methamphetamine substances were found, according to Post Today.
The accident happened on Monday when the bus carrying 35 passengers from southern Thai province Krabi to Surat Thani. The vehicle skipped off a road. Two passengers including an American tourist were slightly injured.
Police said the driver and his assistant were charged with drug abuse, which would bring them fine of 40,000 baht (1,176 U.S. dollars) and unspecified jail term.
The driver's license was reportedly revoked. The company that owns the tour coach had decided to fire the duo, local report said.
