STOCKHOLM, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Swedish government is investing heavily in helping Sweden become a global leader in e-health, with the country's National Board of Health and Welfare tasked with ensuring that the government meets this goal by 2025, it was reported Tuesday.
"The aim of the mission we are now giving the National Board of Health and Welfare is to offer members of staff better conditions for providing patients with the best possible health care," Minister for Health and Social Affairs Annika Strandhall said in a statement.
As part of the new push to improve e-health, which is a healthcare practice supported by electronic processes and communication, the Swedish government is investing heavily in semantic standardization.
It is a consistent use of terminology throughout the health-care sector. According to the government, semantic standardization is a basic premise for e-health as it enables the exchange of information across different technological systems.
The government also wants doctors to use standardized terminology when prescribing medicines and the information should be digitized. The aim is to increase patient security and to enable better follow-ups and statistics.
The board is expected to analyze how patient security can be developed and to construct a support system for health care personnel who will be able to access practical, web-based information that will help reduce work injuries and develop practical working methods.
