ISTANBUL, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police on Tuesday detained at least 109 suspects, including soldiers, over their alleged links to a network accused of masterminding a failed coup in 2016, the state-run Anadolu Agency said.

Police launched simultaneous operations against the suspects in over 25 provinces across the country and in Northern Cyprus, Anadolu said.

Among the suspects are 56 soldiers, who are accused of being members of the network led by Fethullah Gulen, a U.S.-based Turkish cleric, the agency said.

Turkey has listed the Gulen movement as a terror group for its role in the July 2016 putsch, in which 250 people were killed.

More than 150,000 people have been dismissed or suspended from their posts while over 55,000 others arrested in the ongoing crackdown and investigation.
