CHONGQING, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- A highway charging network for electric cars in southwest China's Chongqing City went into operation Tuesday, covering 61 highway service stations in the city.
The charging poles at highway service stations could switch output power and meet the needs for all electric cars, according to the State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company.
Drivers of electric cars could apply for electric charging cards from the city's State Grid company to be able to use the charging poles at any station. Registration can also be done on cell phones.
Zhou Xiong, general manager of the State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company, said the company planned to build a network of 200 charging stations and 2,500 charging poles, covering all districts and counties of the city by 2020.
China, the world's largest auto market, supports NEVs as a way to ease pressure on the environment.
