VIENNA, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The number of legally-registered firearms in Austria has surpassed the one-million mark over the course of 2017 to reach 1,023,037 by the start of the year, Austria Press Agency reported on Tuesday.
Citing figures from the interior ministry, the report said the number of such weapons, including pistols, revolvers, rifles, and shotguns increased 4.2 percent from December 2016 to December 2017.
They are divided amongst 301,420 registered gun owners in the country, whose numbers saw an increase of about 4 percent or 11,436 people.
The majority of the guns (528,236) registered in the country fall into the rifle category, followed by the handguns, semi-automatic firearms and pump-action shotguns (414,656) category.
