LISBON, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Portuguese military concluded four disciplinary hearings on Thursday relating to the theft of weapons and explosives from a military base in June 2017.

The most serious penalty was issued to a sergeant from the 1st Engineers. He was given 15 days detention for neglecting to order a standard procedure security patrol.

An officer on duty at the time of the theft, who should have performed the security patrol anyway, was issued with a "severe reprimand".

A "simple reprimand" went to the store keeper, for incorrectly logging the coming and going of armaments.

The fourth charge related to making false declarations and resulted in a 6-day detention, which has already been served.

An army spokesman, Vicente Pereira, told the Portuguese Lusa News Agency that none of the defendants appealed their penalties.

The weapons and explosives were stolen from the arms depot in Tancos, some 130 km northeast of Lisbon.

The weapons were recovered in October 2017 after an anonymous tip-off.
