New York City's iconic landmark the Statue of Liberty reopened Monday at the expense of state funds following a brief closure as a result of the U.S. federal government shutdown. According to a news release published on New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo's website, the cost of keeping the Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island open is 65,000 U.S. dollars per day.
