LISBON, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Portugal's public projects sector in 2017 returned to levels of activity last seen in 2011, the Association of Civic Construction and Public Works Industries (AICCOPN) announced on Monday.
In 2017, public works contracts put out to tender amounted to 2.95 billion euros. This represents a 68-percent increase compared to 2016, which was itself a 42-percent increase on 2015.
Contracts were signed to the tune of 2.04 billion euros in 2017, making it the most lucrative year since 2011, when 2.62 billion euros worth of agreements were reached.
The volume of tenders bodes well for activity in the construction sector in 2018. Manuel Reis Campo, president of AICCOPN, recently told the Jornal de Negocios newspaper that Portugal needs an extra 70,000 construction workers to meet demand. Enditem
