KATHMANDU, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Some 28 government officials from Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday graduated from the basic Chinese language course provided by the Chinese government.
The officials took part in the 80-hour-long basic Chinese language course organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in Nepal.
The young diplomats, who took the classes for two and half months in the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University, were provided with certificates of graduation at a special event held in the ministry.
Addressing the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong congratulated the trainees on the completion of the course and expressed hope that the language facilitate their work in the future.
The ambassador also noted that the cooperation between China and Nepal will be further strengthened under China's Belt and Road Initiative.
It has always been China's wish that Nepal realizes political stability and economic prosperity, said the Chinese ambassador.
This is not the first time that Nepalese government officials have received Chinese language training. Prior to this, the Confucius Institute has already provided Chinese language training to officials from the Ministry of Education, the Nepal Army and tourism professionals.
On the same occasion, Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shanker Das Bairagi said the Chinese language would be instrumental in promoting the understanding of China among Nepali young diplomats.
"China is our oldest friend and a very important and trusted partner for peace, development and prosperity. Since we are heading for more cooperation in different areas, Chinese language is very important for our officials."
