ADDIS ABABA, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- A celebratory wedding gunfire accidentally killed a bridegroom, and the remorseful shooter killed himself in Ethiopia's central Oromia regional state, an official said Wednesday.
Aschalew Alemu, Public Relations Chief at East Shoa zone police department, Oromia, said the first fatality happened when an errant celebratory gunfire in a wedding killed the bridegroom on Wednesday.
He said the shooter, having realized the death of the bridegroom who is a close friend of his, later killed himself with gun shots.
Ownership of firearms in Ethiopia is strictly regulated, but in some parts of rural Ethiopia where family, property and territorial disputes are common, ownership of firearms is seen as a guarantee of security and strength.
