BEIJING, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- China is to continue its campaign against the spread of vulgar, pornographic, or violent content on live streaming platforms, and online cartoons featuring popular children's characters in sexual or violent scenarios.
The crackdown, which lasts from early February to late April, was initiated by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and several other departments.
Authorities will conduct thorough checks and ban unlicensed platforms and delete illegal or unhealthy content from licensed platforms, according to the joint plan.
Websites with severe violations will be closed and those who are suspected of crimes will be prosecuted.
China has been working to regulate the circulation of videos online, particularly those targeting children. The public is encouraged to provide information on individuals or companies suspected of creating or broadcasting such content by calling 12390 or visiting shdf.gov.cn.
