MANILA, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Four people were injured, two critically, when a fire swept through a casino in a hotel in the Philippines' capital Manila on Sunday morning, authorities said.

Johnny Yu of the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office told a radio interview that the fire gutted the casino's mezzanine up to the third floor.

The Bureau of Fire Protection in Manila said the fire, which broke out at around 9:30 a.m. local time, produced flames and thick smoke plume that engulfed the casino of the Manila Pavilion Hotel and Casino along United Nations Avenue in Manila City.

Yu said the four are being treated in a hospital and no death had so far been reported.

A local radio report earlier said those injured were "unconscious" when rushed to the hospital.

Firefighters continued to put out the fire that continued to rage as of past noon.

The cause of the fire was still unknown.
