JERUSALEM, March 23 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Friday condemned the vicious terrorist attack that took place in France, during which a perpetrator claiming loyalty to the Islamic State killed three people.

"The civilized world must unite and act together to defeat terror," Netanyahu said in a statement issued Friday.

Three people were killed on Friday when the gunman screaming "Allahu Akbar" shot at police and took hostages in a supermarket in Trebes, southern France. The assailant has been shot dead in the police raid.

"On behalf of the Government of Israel, I send condolences to the families of those who were murdered and to the French people," Netanyahu added.
