JAKARTA, March 28 (Xinhua) -- An Indonesian province has launched a proposal to host the Asian Beach Games in 2022.
Authorities suggested the regional sport event could be held in Kepulauan Bangka Belitung province, as the area has a great potential for both beach sports and tourism.
"Our natural resources are supportive for the development and staging of beach sports. We have the infrastructure facilities in place for the event," chairman of the provincial sport committee (named only Elfandi) was quoted by Tempo media as saying.
The Asian Beach Games 2022 will include 12 beach sports, including volleyball, soccer, jet sky, swimming, diving and others, according to the committee.
The Asian Beach Games is a multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. The event, which is the second biggest after the Asian Games, is organized by the Olympic Council of Asia.
A total of 45 countries and regions have taken part in the Games.
