HOUSTON, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Soybean oil remained the largest biodiesel feedstock in January, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported on Friday.
According to EIA's Monthly Biodiesel Production Report, 462 million pounds of soybean oil were consumed during January to produce biodiesel. There were a total of 942 million pounds of feedstocks used to produce biodiesel in the month.
U.S. production of biodiesel was 124 million gallons in January, 24 million gallons less than production in December 2017.
The production came from 94 biodiesel plants with capacity of 2.4 billion gallons per year, and the production from the Midwest region accounted for 68 percent of the total.
Producer sales of biodiesel during January included 51 million gallons sold as B100 (100 percent biodiesel) and an additional 65 million gallons of B100 sold in biodiesel blends with diesel fuel derived from petroleum.
