Interpol red notice fugitive stands trial for bribery

BEIJING, April 3 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese interpol red notice fugitive who fled the country 17 years ago stood trial on suspicion of bribery Tuesday in Beijing, a local court said.

The suspect, Liu, was accused of taking bribes worth over 1.98 million Hong Kong dollars (about 252,300 U.S.dollars) and seeking profits for others while she was an accountant at Hong Kong Resources Engineering Company, a subsidiary of China International Water and Electric Corp.

Liu fled overseas in 2000. In 2015, Liu was listed on an Interpol Red Notice. The suspect, despite changing her name and nationality in 2005, was caught in June 2017 when entering China.

The verdict will be announced at a later date.
