KABUL, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Afghan officials will start a three-day anti-polio campaign Tuesday in the high-risk areas, as a fresh case of the infectious diseases has been confirmed in the country's eastern Kunar province, a statement said Monday.

"Last week in Ghazi Abad district of Kunar province, the second case of polio has been found in the district in the past month, bringing the total number of confirmed polio cases in Afghanistan to seven in 2018," a World Health Organization (WHO) statement said.

According to the statement, the paralyzed 11-old-year girl had never been vaccinated, as the area, her family lived was too difficult to access.

The campaign will cover more than 6 million children under the age of five, according to the statement.

The ongoing insurgency and conflicts have been hindering the efforts to stamp the infectious disease out in the mountainous country.
