UNITED NATIONS, April 11 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was saddened on Wednesday by the crash of a military plane in Alergia that killed 257 people.
"It is with great sadness that the secretary-general learned of the tragic accident involving a military plane this morning near Algiers, in which more than 250 passengers and crew members lost their lives," said Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for Guterres, in a statement.
The secretary-general conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the victims and to the people and government of Algeria, said the statement.
An Algerian military transport plane crashed Wednesday shortly after take-off, killing at least 257 people. The dead included soldiers and family members, according to Algerian authorities.
