Slovenia eyeing film tourism

LJUBLJANA, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia will again present itself as an attractive filmmaking destination at this year's Cannes Film Festival, as the nation announced to offer refunds of up to one quarter costs of production and post-production.

This concessions and attractive polices in the film industry were made to all producers at home and abroad by the Slovenian authorities jointly on Monday, according to the Slovenian Press Agency STA.

As last year, in a bid to attract foreign film makers to Slovenia, the Slovenian Film Centre, together with the Slovenian Tourist Board (STO) and the Ministry of Culture, continued all their efforts aiming to present Slovenia as a destination for film makers at this year's Cannes Film Festival, one of the major European film festivals.

The successful experience in the world showed that countries that attract film productions benefit both in terms of film crews boosting local economies and tourists subsequently choosing destinations where popular movies were filmed.

Slovenia has a great potential in film industry as it offers a number of attractive destinations with diverse and unique natural wonders, open and diverse cultures, short traffic distances among different locations and an advantage of its distinct four seasons.

Over the last decade, several foreign films were shot in Slovenia, including five Bollywood films. The largest film in terms of budget was the Hollywood film The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

Slovenia has also provided the backdrop for a number of TV commercials, including top car makers, Milka chocolate and Game of War 2015 Super Bowl Commercial.
