BERLIN, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Luka Jovic's sole goal secured Eintracht Frankfurt a berth in the final after beating Schalke 1-0 in German Cup's second semi final on Wednesday.
Robert Kovac will encounter his future employer Bayern Munich as ten-man Eintracht Frankfurt progressed for the second straight time into the German Cup final in Berlin on May 19.
Both sides lacked in inspiration for most of the first half as defences neutralized all attacking efforts within the midfield.
Schalke came to the only note worthy chance of the first 45 minutes when Guido Burgstaller tested Frankfurt goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky by header in the 32nd minute.
Schalke's offense started powerfully into the second half but Burgstaller failed to overcome Hradecky following the build-up work from Daniel Caligiuri before Yevhen Konoplyanka's shot on target got defused.
However, the goal was scored at the other end of the pitch as Frankfurt's Jovic flicked on Jonathan de Guzman's corner kick into the far post corner with 75 minutes played.
The visitors from Frankfurt had to complete the game with ten-man as Gelson Fernandes saw a straight red card following a rude foul play, 33 seconds after his fielding.
Schalke pressed frenetically for the equalizer and they got a goal disallowed as Franco Di Santo's shot into the roof of the net was flagged due to a hand ball in the dying minutes of the game.
Ten-man Frankfurt held firm and protected their lead to the end to face record champions Bayern Munich in the German Cup final.
"We are of course very disappointed even though we played tactically right. We staged a well-positioned defense but Frankfurt scored the decisive goal in the second half. Congrats to Frankfurt," Schalke's coach Domenico Tedesco said.
"We showed a great willpower today. Schalke were perfectly prepare to face us. We fought to the end and advance for the second time in row into the final," Frankfurt's sporting director Fredi Bobic said.
