KAMPALA, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Uganda is slated to play Zimbabwe, Namibia and Tanzania in a regional cricket tournament ahead of the 2018 International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's World Twenty20.
Head coach Francis Otieno said in an interview on Monday that the tournament, dubbed the 2018 Zimbabwe Invitational Cricket Twenty20, is scheduled from April 28 to May 4.
Otieno said he has picked a team of 14 who will play round-robin matches.
He said Uganda has already had six build-up games in Tanzania, noting that the Zimbabwe tournament will put the team in better shape.
Uganda beat Zimbabwe last year in the ICC Women's World Twenty20 Africa qualifiers in Windhoek, Namibia.
Martin Ondeko, the acting CEO of the Uganda Cricket Association said the Ugandan team will use the games as warm-ups for the 2018 ICC Women's World Twenty20 event taking place in the Netherlands on July 3-14.
The world tournament will attract teams from Bangladesh, Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Scotland and hosts Netherlands who will represent the European/Americas region.
The Uganda squad includes Kevin Awino (captain), Janet Mbabzi, Immaculate Nakisuyi, Saidat Kemigisha, Mary Nalule and Rachel Ntono.
The other members are Joyce Mary Apio, Prico Nakitende, Carol Namugenyi, Franklyn Najjumba, Gertrude Chandiru, Stephanie Nampiina, Rita Musamali and Consy Aweko.
