Spain's unemployment falls in April

MADRID, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Spain's unemployment fell by 86,683 people in April compared with March, according to data released on Friday by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security.

April's figure is the lowest since January 2009, the Ministry highlighted.

On a year-on-year basis, the number of people unemployed dropped by 237,168 people, which meant a 6.64 percent fall.

Unemployment fell in all 17 Spanish regions on a monthly basis, especially in southern region of Andalusia, Catalonia and the Community of Madrid.

Regarding sectors, service sector saw the biggest fall, which was followed by construction, agriculture and industry.

Spain's State Secretary for Employment Juan Pablo Riesgo noted that "indefinite contracts rose by 25.2 percent when compared with April, 2017, almost three times the number of temporary contracts". Enditem
