ISLAMABAD, May 11 (Xinhua) -- A policeman was killed and 13 others were injured when a remote-controlled bomb went off near a police vehicle in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday, police said.
According to District Police Officer Sadiq Baloch, the bomb was planted in a motorcycle parked near the Kohat Chowrangi area in Bannu district in the province. The target of the blast was a police van that was on a routine patrol in the area, the official added.
Police in the area said in a statement that the injured included civilians and three policemen.
The explosion also caused damage to the vehicles parked close to the blast site, said ARY News.
Following the explosion, a heavy contingent of police along with rescue teams reached the site and cordoned off the area. Investigation was underway.
All the injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Bannu for medical assistance. No group or person has claimed the attack yet.
