SHANGHAI, May 11 (Xinhua) -- China has become Indonesia's biggest source of tourists for the past two years, and the country expects more Chinese tourists, an official with the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Shanghai said on Friday.
Over two million visitors from the Chinese mainland visited Indonesia in 2017, accounting for 14.95 percent of its international tourists, said Siti Nugraha Mauludiah, Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Shanghai, during the ongoing Indonesia Week in Shanghai.
Statistics from lvmama.com, a Shanghai-based online travel agency, showed that Indonesia ranked in the top 5 most popular overseas destinations for Chinese tourists during the recent International Labor Day holiday.
Siti Nugraha Mauludiah said that she expects more Chinese tourists to visit Indonesia and get to know its culture. She hoped the number of Chinese visitors to Indonesia will hit 10 million in the next two years.
The 10-day Indonesia Week 2018, organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Shanghai, kicked off on May 4. Shanghai residents and visitors can enjoy activities such as photo exhibitions, dancing and singing performances, and handicraft exhibitions. The event has already attracted about 80,000 people.
