NAIROBI, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's Helen Obiri will be eyeing revenge as she comes up against World 3,000m Indoor champion Genzebe Dibaba at the Prefontaine Classic meeting in United States on Friday.
Obiri and Dibaba will headline a titanic matchup in the women's race as each targets to leave a lasting impression of their intend this season, especially with focus on setting fast times.
"It was a nice way to start outdoors winning the Commonwealth Games. I had to test my speed at the Doha Diamond League and was happy with my time of 8:53.65. But the real test will be in Eugene and I feel the form in me will help glide through to victory," Obiri said on Monday in Nairobi.
Obiri won last year's World Championships and IAAF Diamond League Trophy in the 5000m, but Dibaba has come back from an off year with an historic double-gold performance at the World Indoor Championships in March winning both the 1,500 and 3,000 meters races.
They are two of only five women to break 14:20 in the 5,000m. In Eugene, the two will have a clash of skills, which will be centered on speed.
Dibaba owns the 1500 world record - and they will have unique company in Sifan Hassan, last year's world leader in the 1500 who won gold at the 2016 Portland World Indoors and now trains in Oregon. This will be the first time all three will race together at the 5,000m distance.
