NAIROBI, May 14 (Xinhua) -- The Kenyan Sevens women's team has been seeded top of the Rugby Africa Sevens tournament slated for May 26 in Gaborone, Botswana.

The two-day tournament has attracted 10 teams - hosts Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, Uganda, Mauritius, Madagascar, Kenya, Senegal and Uganda.

Defending champions South Africa pulled out of the tournament in a bid to focus on the World Cup.

The Kenyan team, which is in training in Nairobi under head coach Kevin Wambua, will be aiming to improve on their last year's final loss to South Africa.

"Of course the team has shown a lot of improvement and we must stamp our authority in Africa and then go on to dominate at the global stage," Wambua said Monday.

Lionesses, runners-up at last year's tournament in Tunisia, are the top side in Pool A which also features Madagascar and Senegal.

Pool B has Tunisia, Uganda and Zimbabwe while Pool C witnesses Morocco, Botswana, Mauritius and Zambia.

South Africa will be the only team representing the continent at the World Cup in San Francisco, USA in July.

However, Wambua has remained optimistic, Kenya will soon qualify for the IRB World Series as a core team and gain the much need international exposure. Enditem
