CAIRO, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's Suez Canal revenues rose to 479.3 million U.S. dollars in April compared to 463 million dollars in March, the Suez Canal Authority said in statement on Tuesday.
A total of 48 ships transited the Suez Canal on Tuesday, with the cargo of 3 million tons, according to the authority.
The Suez Canal is one of Egypt's main sources of national income and foreign currency reserves, besides tourism and foreign investment that have been suffering decline over the past few years due to political turmoil and relevant security challenges.
The Suez Canal revenues rose to 5.3 billion dollars in 2017, a 5.4 percent growth compared with those in 2016.
