JAKARTA, May 24 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian tennis squad is upbeat about their prospects for hitting their gold medals target in the upcoming Asian Games, a minister said here on Thursday.

Indonesian Youth and Sport Minister Imam Nahrawi said that the optimism came following the participation the country's tennis players in several tournaments.

"Tennis will bring good news for the Indonesian people," he said.

During the tryout matches, minister Nahrawi said that Indonesian players were aware of what their opponents are capable of.

"The optimism has become real, as they have played their opponents several times," said Nahrawi.

Tennis will be played in the Jakabaring sport compound located in Palembang city, the provincial capital of South Sumatra, according to the youth and sport ministry.

Tennis has been played in each edition of Asian Games since 1958, with the exception being in 1970.

Men's and woman's singles, men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles have been contested each time. Men's and women's team events have been contested since 1962.

The 18th Asian Games are scheduled to be held in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta and in Palembang city from August 18 to September 2.
