AMMAN, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Thursday slammed Israel's plan for building new settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
Jordan's Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said Israel's plan to build new settlements are totally rejected and illegal, in violation of all international laws and UN resolutions.
Israel's unilateral measures seek to alter the current status in the occupied Palestinian territories, undermining all efforts to attain peace and stability in the Middle East, said the minister.
On Thursday, Israel's Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said that he will seek next week a fast-track approval for some 2,500 new housing units in West Bank.
About 600,000 Israelis live in the settlements in areas where the Palestinians seek to build their future state.
