HO CHI MINH CITY, May 25 (Xinhua) -- A Vietnamese third-year student at the Oriental Studies Faculty of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities on Friday won the final round of Southern Vietnam of the 17th "Chinese Bridge," the annual Chinese proficiency competition for foreign college students.
At the one-day event in Ho Chi Minh City, Oriental Studies student Tran Thao Trinh outperformed 17 other contestants to top the competition's final round in Vietnam's southern region. Her faculty mate Bui Hoang Long, and Le Thanh Huy from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Pedagogy jointly secured the second place.
All the contestants demonstrated their knowledge about Chinese language, culture and history by delivering a speech, answering questions, and showing their art talents.
"The competition is very meaningful to me. I love China and Chinese language, and I plan to apply for a scholarship to study in China after I graduate," Trinh told Xinhua.
The winners of the local competitions in Vietnam's southern and northern regions will be representatives of the country to partake in the final round of the international competition in China in mid-2018.
Hosted by the Confucius Institute Headquarters in China, the "Chinese Bridge" competition is one of the most significant platforms for college students across the world to study Chinese language.
