CAIRO, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's agricultural exports of vegetables and fruits increased to 2.88 million tons during the current season, state-run news agency MENA reported on Friday.
Egypt exported 1.19 million tons of citrus and 672,000 tons of potatoes, a noticeable increase, the report said, quoting a statement by the Central Administration for Agricultural Extension Services.
Other agricultural exports, including onion, beans, strawberries, cucumber, eggplant, pepper, pomegranate, mango, and grapes also increased, the report said.
Egyptian Agriculture Minister Abdel Moneim El Banna attributed the increase of Egypt's agricultural exports to the ministry's efforts to guarantee the safety and quality of the Egyptian crops.
Egypt has succeeded in opening new markets for agricultural exports, particularly in European Union and East Asian countries including China, Banna said.
