VIENNA, May 25 (Xinhua) -- China is expecting a new co-chair of the working group on redesigning Iran's Arak nuclear reactor under the Iran nuclear deal after U.S. pullout, Wang Qun, China's representative to a meeting here on the deal said on Friday.
Under the nuclear deal reached in July 2015, the United States co-chaired with China a working group on the redesigning of the Arak heavy water reactor to minimize its plutonium production and avoid production of weapons-grade plutonium.
However, after U.S. withdrawal from the deal, the project needs another co-chair with China to continue it, Wang Qun said after attending the meeting with other world major states and Iran.
Wang told reporters that all sides want to cooperate to save the deal despite U.S. pullout.
China has been always supporting the deal, making multilateral diplomatic efforts to resolve the issue.
