TAIPEI, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Taiwanese consumer confidence continued to decline in May, according to the results of a monthly survey released Monday.
The consumer confidence index, which is based on a survey by the Research Center for Taiwan Economic Development, dropped 1.28 points from April to 85.61 points in May.
The index consists of six indicators reflecting what people think about the economy over the next six months, in terms of consumer prices, the timing of investment in stock market, employment opportunities, family income, economic conditions, and the timing to buy durable goods.
All six indicators dropped this month, with the biggest decline in the stock market investment forecast, which fell 3.6 points from the previous month to 101.9 points.
The only other sub-index above 100 points was employment opportunities, which fell to 104.35 points.
Generally speaking, an indicator between 0 and 100 indicates pessimism while scores between 100 and 200 indicate optimism.
The survey was conducted by telephone interview between May 19 and 23 among 2,658 Taiwanese aged 20 and older.
