RIO DE JANEIRO, June 6 (Xinhua) -- A long-range wonder goal from midfielder Fellipe Bastos gave Sport Recife a 1-0 victory over Atletico Paranaense in Brazil's Serie A championship on Wednesday.
Bastos launched a dipping 40-meter shot that caught goalkeeper Aderbar Santos off his line and cannoned into the top right corner.
The result at Ilha do Retiro in Recife lifted Sport to second in the 20-team standings, two points behind leaders Flamengo, who have a game in hand.
Meanwhile, reigning champions Corinthians continued their dismal run of form with a 1-1 home draw against Santos.
The hosts took the lead when Roger Rodrigues struck just after half-time before Victor Ferraz equalized in the 75th minute.
Corinthians are now seventh in the standings with just four wins from their first 10 matches. Eight-time champions Santos are 15th with three victories.
In Rio de Janeiro, hosts Botafogo were held to a 0-0 draw by Ceara, who were promoted from Serie B in December.
