TOKYO, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday amid hopes that a summit between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States will lead to a denuclearized Korean Peninsula in the future.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 74.31 points, or 0.33 percent, from Monday to close the day at a three-week high at 22,878.35.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 5.98 points, or 0.33 percent, to finish the day at 1,792.82.
Land transportation, oil and coal product, and food-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
