DOHA, June 30 (Xinhua) -- A Qatari senior official has called on joint international efforts to combat terrorism at a UN conference, state-run Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported Saturday.

The call was made by Abdul Aziz Al Ansari, chairman of Qatar's National Counter-Terrorism Committee, during a speech at the UN High-level Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies.

Ansari also highlighted the need to reach bilateral and multilateral agreements to fight terrorism, QNA said.

"Qatar has facilitated the urgent exchange of information in the Interpol through a special tribunal in the light of the diversity and expansion of terrorist activities," he said.

Last year, Qatar and the U.S. signed an agreement to jointly combat terrorism financing, after Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates severed diplomatic ties with Qatar and imposed a land, air and sea blockade on the gas-rich country on June 5.

The Arab quartet accuse Qatar of funding terrorism, which Doha has repeatedly denied.

The two-day UN conference on anti-terrorism, which kicked off on Thursday, was attended by heads of anti-terrorism agencies of UN member states, as well as representatives of regional organizations, civil society organizations and the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact entities.
