NANJING, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Reigning world champions USA won the women's Volleyball Nations League title after a nail-biter 3-2 (17-25, 25-22, 26-28, 25-15, 15-7) victory over Turkey in the gold medal match on Sunday.

American wing spiker Kimberly Hill stood out with her 20-point tally that included 16 kills, helping the team prevail after a tight match that stretched over two hours.

Star player Michelle Bartsch-Hackley and veteran captain Jordan Larson also joined the party with 18 and 15 points apiece.

Turkey showed their tenacity and had shimmers of hope throughout the match as opposite spiker Meryem Boz and middle blocker Eda Erdem Dundar both garnered 20 points.

But the night ultimately belonged to the tournament top seed USA. They came into the finals with a 13-2 record and then defeated Turkey, swept Serbia and beat hosts China in the semifinals.

Now, they have written themselves into history books as the first-ever FIVB Volleyball Nations League champions. Enditem
